Hello everyone !
It’s Marion (a.k.a. Kickherout), and I’m back with that very nice
column called Designers !
As this is my first post in this category, I’m going to talk about a
very famous brand we’ve got in France, which is also very well known across the
world.
You may also propose designers for the next post (maybe one you want to
learn about or to read about in this blog, and I would love to here from you in
the comment section !).
So as you may know, there will be this weekend the Roland Garros finale
in Paris, which is a competition opposing the best tennis players of the world.
One of the main sponsors of it is Lacoste. It’s a sportswear brand which is
know for « sporting the preppy wardrobe ». For the record, it was
created in 1933 by René Lacoste (a French former tennis player) and its logo is a green crocodile.
Here is a shirt specially made for the 40 years of the Roland Garros cup.
I’m going to focus here on the work of the creative designer which,
according to me, is someone to follow in the future !
His name is Felipe Oliveira Baptista (born in 1975), and he is a
portuguese designer who studied in London before settling in Paris. Before
working for Lacoste, he launched his own brand which can be considered as a mix
between Jeremy Scott and Balenciaga. If you want to see more about his 2007
work (this collection is called The Wrestlers), click here.
He joined Lacoste in 2010. You can find below this summer collection.
As you can see, on one side it looks very sporty, but also on the other side it
looks very casual and somehow « chic ».
For the more sceptical of you, here is a picture of a French model/weather-girl
wearing a Lacoste outfit for a random redcarpet event. I think it’s kinda edgy
and glamour !
We’ve got very few known examples of the brand’s items on
Stardoll : only two dolls and a very wanted Hotbuys sweater.
Pictures found thanks to seenonstardoll.
December 2006, Hotbuys.
Well, I hope you liked this post, and I'm waiting for your feedback !
You can tell us if you like tennis, who you look forward to win the cup - of course you can be a fashionista a loving this -, if you knew about Lacoste and its designer, and of course if you enjoyed this !
cheers xx
